5 Things You Need to Know Before You Wax

5 Things You Should Know Before You Wax

Thankfully, it’s almost time to throw away your tights and hang up the long baggy jeans for the year. The winter season puts your skin through a harsh and hairy few months, but let’s get real: it’s time to get beach body ready because spring break is right around the corner! Waxing is a quick and effective alternative to shaving right before you leave for vacation, but there are some things you should know before you wax:

WHO should get a wax:

Any age or gender can get a wax. We offer a wide range of services and are specialized in all departments of waxing. We generally recommend ages 16 and higher though.

WHAT to expect:

For most waxes, your waxing technician will clean and disinfect the areas before applying the wax. They will then apply the wax and remove the hair with a special strip of paper.

WHEN to go get a wax:

The best time to get a wax is a few days prior to the event you are waxing for. You will need time to repair the area before showing it off. If you are waxing for spring break, then get the wax done two days before you leave so you have time to apply cream and get rid of any redness that may come with it.

WHERE to get waxed:

Waxing is a sensitive area of care, so make sure you go somewhere professional and trustworthy. Spa in the City has trained professionals that know the ins and outs of spa services. Go to our waxing services page to see what we offer.

WHY waxing is better than shaving:

Shaving anywhere on your body is only a temporary treatment to getting rid of unwanted hair. Waxing pulls hair from the root, rather than only taking the top layer of hair when you shave. Hair that has been shaved comes back after only two hours and shows the hair follicles right below the skin. Waxing can last up to a month and, over time, it thins the hair, decreasing the amount of times you will need hair removal methods.

HOW to prepare for a wax:

Before getting a wax, make sure that you have gone without shaving for at least 1-2 weeks and have about ¼ inch of hair growth. On the day of your waxing appointment, make sure to exfoliate your whole body, especially the areas you are treating. Some people experience pain during a waxing session, so taking over the counter pain relievers such as Tylenol or Advil will help avoid this issue. There are also numbing lotions such as Trauma Cream that will help avoid pain. Preparation for waxing may differ with the type of waxing you are getting done.
